Live Review: Amtrac 'Undefeated/Primal' EP

1 June 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Amtrac has a brand new EP available to stream on Soundcloud and each track is a fun number that'll you'll be listening to for months.

Over in the United States we have a fair few producers releasing great material and AMTRAC is one of those producers who most definitely deserves to be praised for his mix of deep house synths and bright samples.

The producer has a fair few remixes under his belt as well with DUKE DUMONT, THE SWISS and  SNAKADAKTAL all receiving the transformation treatment from him at some point or another. With talent like this, it's hard to not be noticed but AMTRAC still seems to be able drop off the radar for a number of months before pouncing back into our lives with brand new music and with his brand new EP now available to stream, AMTRAC has again pounced back into our lives.

The EP is simply titled Undefeated/Primal, and features two brands new tracks that will get you dancing whether you feel like it or not. 'Undefeated' is the first track to be featured on the EP and as soon as it starts, you're already hooked. With bright synths seeping in with ghostly vocals hovering over it until a steady drum-machine beat jumps on in and gives the track a bit more life. 'Undeafeated' uses the vocal track as a base and seems to warp the melody around it like a jacket made of house staples. With old-school garage samples and a tight percussion, 'Undefeated' seems to step on steadily becoming a joy to listen to.

When 'Undefeated' finishes, you're kind of left with a sad twing because you got into the groove of things so easily that it suddenly became hard to get out of it again, but luckily 'Primal' brings everything back up again, this time a tad differently.

When 'Primal' starts instead of being placed straight on the dance floor, you're placed in a new world of flittering synths and atmospheric samples that create something out of an early 2000's techno dream. AMTRAC has gone a bit nostalgic on this one drawing some garage influences for a light and sweet track that really needs to be listened to to be really taken in. My words can't possibly do it justice. The sharp snare hits bounce throughout the track and the light horns that slide in and out of 'Primal' at it's end really give the track an emotional element that can make you think back to a series of good memories.

AMTRAC's Undefeated/Primal EP is released on June 2 through Black Book Audio or Armada Records, depending on where you are in the world so listen, and if you love purchase!
