Live Review: Ara Koufax 'Converge'

13 June 2014 | 2:05 pm | Lauren Payne

Naysayer & Gilsun have created a new project that has just released it's debut single

You know know and love NAYSAYER & GILSUN, but the boys have decided to take a different path recently and have begun releasing music under the name ARA KOUFAX.

Sam Gill and Luke Neher have decided to step away from their main project for a while as they somehow came up with a variety of new ideas in a small beach house. The jam session sprouted ARA KOUFAX and now we have a "debut single" of sorts from the pair.

The single is called 'Converge' and presents itself in a very clean way. This is a great introduction to ARA KOUFAX, showing listeners what to expect from the project as new material emerges. The track is slightly different from what NAYSAYER & GILSUN produce, but having something new like 'Converge' being released gives us a chance to see another side of the duo that we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.

'Converge' quickly proves to be a very atmospheric track, one perfect for a late night drive or quiet soundtrack. The track creates its melody from a variety of samples and synths that blend together into an array of sounds that hum and buzz in unison. The multi-layered melody gives the track a superb texture that feels bright an warm as well as dark and cool. Powerful vocals charge alongside the track with the unique melody creating the neat little package that 'Converge' comes in.

This is ARA KOUFAX in a nutshell, unique and powerful. This project will definitely be a successful one that Gill and Neher will have a lot of fun with. keep an eye out for new material as it it sure to float out soon enough as their debut EP is to be released this August through Downtime Records.
