Live Review: Jessie Ware 'Tough Love' (Cyril Hahn Remix)

8 July 2014 | 2:30 pm | Darren Ng

Cyril Hahn puts a twist on Jessie Ware's latest output 'Tough Love', infusing house elements into this otherwise soulful song.

Cyril

Since her last release in 'Devotion', there has been plenty of tears shed and a JESSIE WARE-shaped hole forming in our hearts, but after setting aside the past two years to mark her comeback, she returns this time with her currently-untitled follow up album.

There has been plenty of hype after a 16 second instrumental-only teaser turned up on Instagram; 'Tough Love' is exactly what was expected from Jessie, but only better. Still sticking to the ethereal voices and the airy yet wavy synthesisers, she over performs with the jingle and chime, while the moving bass beats hold everything in place. Despite her vulnerable persona, it is the toughest Jessie Ware has looked since she premiered 'Wildest Moments'.

Jessie Ware's tracks have seen its share of artistic touches and remixes and Cyril Hahn, being the first to step up to the platter, is no novice. Cyril's version brings to the table more bite than possible, leaving Jessie's lush vocals untouched, he adds a throbbing heartbeat to the song and laying edgy piano bits over it. If Jessie represents the soul and the body, Cyril is the sturdy and robust bridge holding them together.

After a fair bit of bobbing up and down our radar, Jessie is finally touring but sadly only two festivals in the UK and Berlin have been lucky to book her in, but at least there is reason to rejoice, we hear there is some serious collaboration with James Ford and Ed Sheeran on the new album.
