Live Review: Kolsch 'Cassiopeia'

5 July 2014 | 12:50 pm | Adriana Barro

Danish producer Kolsch has returned with a two-track EP sure to awaken the senses.

The latest offering from record label Kompakt's long running series 'Speicher' features Danish producer KOLSCH. The two track EP 'Speicher 79' is the first we've heard from KOLSCH since his much loved album from last year '1977'.

Both tracks from the EP 'Papageno' and 'Cassiopeia' are completely different in sound, but both keep within the genre techno and house genres that KOLSCH is known for. From the teaser available on the artist's SoundCloud, it is obvious that 'Papageno' is quite a confronting track, with wobbling, high pitched static sounds atop vocals by NIKOLAJ MANUEL VORSILD  from WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE.

On the other hand 'Cassiopeia' features the talents of composer GREGOR SCHWELLENBACH (keeping up with all these names I hope? I'll be quizzing you later) which helps to produce a sound that is equally as epic, but far more listener-friendly. 'Cassiopeia' has an overall uplifting yet tragic sound to it, as to be expected any times that strings get involved. Speaking of the collaboration, KOLSCH said that he had "always loved the idea of joining forces with a classical composer to make my tracks sound more alive” - and he wasn't wrong.

A full listen through of the 'Cassiopeia' has been available through MixMag, so no excuses not to have a listen.
