Live Review: Rolls Bayce ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’

22 July 2014 | 9:37 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

After a year of playing their music together and recording, ROLLS BAYCE have announced the release of their debut single ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’.

I remember when I was in year 10 (granted, this was only 3 years ago) when I first started heavily getting into going to shows, one of the first bands I saw was HUNGRY KIDS OF HUNGARY. Their album ‘Escapades’ was and still is one of my favourite start-to-finish releases to date.

Oh believe me, no one was sadder that HUNGRY KIDS OF HUNGARY broke up than I was. The fateful day that the saddening post popped up on my newsfeed forced me to refresh the page to make sure it was actually real and not just a hoax. But sadly, they did. And for a while there, we thought the boys were out of the game for good.

Until ROLLS BAYCE became a thing.

With a lineup that features ex-HKOH front man Dean McGrath, James Wright (formerly of MILLIONS) and Neal Apel, ROLLS BAYCE is the next I guess you could say ‘super group’ in Australian music.

After a year of playing their music together and recording, ROLLS BAYCE have announced the release of their debut single ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’.

To be released on the 25th of July through Create/Control, ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ is the first official taste of the band’s sound. Straight away exposing the flawlessly orchestrated vocals of Dean McGrath, the melody-driven track is steered in a musically complex direction from the get go. Riffs upon riffs are squared away along with the impacting forcefulness of the drum kit.

The band have just landed a residency spot for August at the Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane. ROLLS BAYCE will be playing alongside special guests on the 2nd, 16th and 30th of August. Check out the event details here.

Such a complex sound, it’s great to see such a talented group of musicians continue to do what they do best. And that’s making some pretty damn good music.
