Live Review: Lido 'Money' (Official Video)

30 September 2014 | 11:33 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

The latest single 'Money' off Lido's ‘I Love You’ EP has been treated to a video of its own.

I feel like it’s harder to translate an electronic or dance song into a video. Not for a story’s sake, but for the sake of doing the song justice and finding a correlation between the video and the song.

It’s not particularly that often that you come across a video that perfectly reflects the moods, colours and textures of a song. LIDO has done just that with his latest video for ‘Money’ directed by Jam Sutton. The latest single is off his ‘I Love You’ EP which was only just released. ‘Money’ is a hyperactive, sugar-laced treat that bounces like no other.

I think it’s the definitive nature of the sound that makes this track what it is. It’s the hard hitting synth, the staccato nature of the short phrases and the very dense texture of the layers of sound. The video is paired so innovatively with the track in that they are both reflective of ‘Money’ I suppose, but it goes a bit deeper than that.

The way the video has been edited really highlights the great points of the song, and key moments are emphasised with a rather drastic feature in the video occurring. Burning skulls, an impending message in Latin, expensive weaponry, and of course, many, many cinematographic shots of various money related paraphernalia.

LIDO’s latest video is innovative and inventive. Something that would not have been expected, and definitely highlights how huge this track truly is.
