Live Review: Willow Beats 'Merewif' (Leon Osborn Remix)

25 October 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Willow Beats have been remixed by producer Leon Osborn.

WILLOW BEATS are back with a brand new EP and their track 'Merewif', the first from the EP to be released as a single, has already blown our minds.

The act have a knack for creating organic sounding beats with smooth synths and natural samples like running water and hollow percussion. Singer Kalyani Mumtaz's ethereal vocals echo beautifully over the melodies as her partner in crime, Narayana Johnson, swoops in with his own deep vocals.

WILLOW BEATS are a very balanced pair and you can hear it on 'Merewif'. The original mix sees the duo conjuring house synths that compliments a series of natural water samples that wash over the track. Twinkling synths dance atop a deep bass, whilst the tribal electronica entrances us and makes us move in ways we never thought we could. WILLOW BEATS are like magical electronic beings and producer LEON OSBORN has remixed 'Merewif' and created a tantalising piece that is quite similar to the original mix.

LEON OSBORN's remix has a bit more edge to it that WILLOW BEATS' original, but it still embodies similar elements to the duos original mix. With scratching samples opening the track, OSBORN has already used his own organic samples to transform 'Merewif'.  Mumtaz's vocals are kept the same, with little to no cutting or distortion at all and they soar over the new sharp melody and jagged cuts.

WILLOW BEATS' latest EP Water is available now.
