Live Review: Niia 'Body' (Official Video)

31 October 2014 | 12:00 am | Adam Kosnan

Niia has unveiled her most recent music video to 'Body' which comes from her EP "Generation Blue".

NIIA, the classically-trained, 26 year-old "modern noir / future jazz" chanteuse and pianist got her start at the age of 19 upon a chance meeting with Wyclef Jean.

Her single, 'Body' which forms part of her "Generation Blue" EP was a big hit when it was released due to the delicate rhythm and airy piano solo at the beginning of the track. Off the back of the EP, it was announced recently that NIIA will create a new collaborative EP with critically lauded producer and artist, The Range. With that announcement as well, Niia has released the official music video to the mystical track 'Body'.

The haunting track is complemented with a monochromatic video that was shot artfully with wild dogs chasing an innocent rabbit while the scantily dressed NIIA, lustfully position herself with a dominating lover. It's hard to read into the intent the video is trying to entice the listener with but I would assume it represents the lengths someone would go to for the love of his/her life.

If the video is not your cup of tea, it's easy to be swayed by the lush and catchy chorus "We could be strangers, as long as you love my body" which was soft yet elegant enough to attract multiple listens.

As mentioned earlier, NIIA will be releasing another EP with critically acclaimed producer, THE RANGE. Due out December 8th, the EP will feature edits of some of her Hannibal-produced material and new songs, all umbrellaed under the unmistakable sonic pastiche for which The Range is exponentially gaining notoriety.

Her current single 'BODY' is available today for free download via KCRW.
