Live Review: Tobtok 'Free' ft. Hoodlem

Tobtok releases the second track from his EP, 'Free', featuring vocals from Hoodlem; it's flawless vocal deep house that's altogether too easy to swallow.

Take one Swedish disco savant – in this case, TOBTOK – and one Australian mystery duo with killer vocal chops. Mix them together what have you got? You’ve got yourself a recipe for effortlessly groovy house that’s just too easy to swallow.

For the second track from his EP ‘Savanna’, out now on Parisian label Kitsuné (which practically sets the parameters for so-cool-it’s-beyond-cool), Tobtok worked with mystery Melbourne twosome Hoodlem to produce a plucky, elemental track that’s smooth from end to end.

Free’ is textbook vocal deep house as it should be, and Hoodlem brings it with the sultry, honeyed vocal gymnastics. Every second of this track is subtly nuanced so as to engage the listener, with a never-ending parade of unique, understated audio details that scintillate and titillate.

I guarantee this track is exactly what you were looking for as you get ready for a huge silly season. This is easy listening for beers and chips on the patio while you and your mates bitch about the humidity, that one friend you didn’t invite to pre-drinks (but who is inexplicably texting everyone to ask what they’re up to, as if he somehow knows you’re hanging out without him), and how much you don’t want to go to work at any point in the foreseeable future.

There’s no doubt about it: you’ve been waiting for this.
