Where I Swarm: Slumberjack On Perth

19 November 2014 | 12:19 pm | Cheryl Billman

Bass wielding gods Slumberjack shows us around a slice of Australia's west coast: Perth, possibly Australia's coolest city.

SLUMBERJACK

By now you know, our good mates at JACK DANIEL’S HONEY are working with us to make sure you know the best places to eat, drink and be merry – we’ve asked some of our favourite artists around the globe to share their top five must-visit places to get you in the party spirit.

And what to do with this party sprit? Jack Honey wants to give you a weekend away at Byron Bay to pull your own crowd together and share a Jack Honey and dry. Keen? Make sure you enter below. (Hint: If all your mates enter, your chances are that much better.)

Moving back to the beats. In today’s guide, we’re showing you around a slice of Australia’s west coast with our good mates SLUMBERJACK

Isn’t it heartwarming to see teamwork in action?

Slumberjack is the combined efforts of Morgan Then and Fletcher Ehlers (and the duo most likely responsible for your enthused rump-shaking on the d-floor at two in the morning). Their bass-heavy, synth-addled electronic conglomeration of genres and influences has set them apart, through a catalogue of beloved remixes and massive original works. October saw them delivering guest mix for Purple Sneakers on FBi Click and, not to be biased or anything, but it was off the chain.

The dynamic duo – who, as individuals, won Western Australia’s Limelite DJ Competition in 2011 and 2012 – know Perth (Australia’s forth most populous city, by the by) like the back of their hands and now, thanks to their guidance, you will too.

WHERE WE DRINK:

Moon Cafe Shop (Northbridge)

“The perfect late night spot for a drink/feed after a late studio session or show. They make the bossest drinks too! We really like the dim lighting because we usually look messy after a show – those eye bags ain't gonna hide themselves, but with dim red light all is possible. They also sometimes do live music featuring musicians from WAAPA and Ellington Jazz Club. Gives us a good break from the doof doof."

WHERE WE EAT:

Palsaik Namoo (Perth City)

"This is our go to place to quench our constant need for Korean BBQ and milkis (the greatest beverage in the world – for those who aren’t acquainted, it’s a milk/lemonade hybrid). We often bring our friends who are visiting for shows here and it’s guaranteed to turn into a three-hour affair in which we all end up in some sort of food/spice induced trance."

WHERE WE RELAX:

Lesmurdie

"This place is surprisingly close to the city despite its 'foresty-ness'. If you can make it up to the top of the hill, there’s a pretty sweet view over the city. Last time I went while a thunderstorm was passing over the CBD and it was amazing to watch from a distance."

WHERE WE PARTY:

Ambar (Perth City)

"This place has literally everything you would want from a club. It’s underground, has one of the most banging sound systems we’ve ever heard and an insane 'about-the-music' vibe."

Bobs Hollow

WHERE WE IMPRESS A DATE:

Bob's Hollow (Margaret River)

"Not really in 'Perth' per se… it's about three hours away but it's absolutely breathtaking. I’d go during the cooler seasons – guess who becomes the hand warmer?"

Slumberstudio

WHERE WE WORK:

The Slumberstudio (Super Secret Location)

"This really is our favourite place to get creative; something about being in a comfortable, familiar environment that we’ve spent so many hours in. The room has been slowly growing over time as we’ve accumulated 'stuff' – we added the extra swaggy leopard print rug which is an absolute necessity for creativity."
