Meanwhile is filling the void of 80s glam pop. Whilst he's only released EP 'The Element Yes', it's fair to say that we can expect big things from this young talent.
What do you do when you’ve exhausted yourself through Prince’s entire discography? You move on to Meanwhile! The project of multi-instrumentalist Tom Andrews, Meanwhile first grabbed attention for the song Luvletta - a glam 80s odyssey that sounds uncannily like the ‘The Artist Formerly Known As’.
However there’s more to Meanwhile than the Prince comparisons - he’s shown he’s a versatile talent to watch out for through debut EP ‘The Element Yes’. An uplifting M83-esque pop extravaganza, it’s an exciting, diverse record that will demand repeat listens. Funkadelic grooves come in the plenty on tracks ‘Icarus’ and ‘AAIU’ and and a brilliant moment of pop balladry is delivered through song ‘Apples and Oranges’.

And of course it’s got a stellar, catchy-as-hell single - ‘All For The Taking’ sees Tom’s glam rock modernised ala Pheonix. It’s an infectious track that make’s you wanna bust out your tutu skirt and shake it like you're in a John Hughes movie.
At the moment, he’s touring in support of pop queen La Roux across Europe. But I don’t think it will be long until Meanwhile is headlining his own shows.
My prediction for 2015: Meanwhile will drop an adored debut album, that will resurrect snythpop for the masses and see his celebrity grow tenfold. Get in on the magic now so you can boast to your friends how you knew him before he was 'big'.
The Element Yes is out via Fiction Records.
