Live Review: Embryo ‘Don’t Need You Around (My Man)’

Slovenian producer Embryo has just dropped his latest LP 'Luv Grooves'. ‘Don’t Need You Around (My Man)’ is the first single.

Throwing us beats from Kosice in Slovakia, EMBRYO is just a taste of what the European dance scene has for us all. He’s just dropped his debut album titled ‘Luv Grooves’ through his own DIY label House Of Unity.

The label’s mission is to keep the empowering and refreshingly characteristic elements of 90’s house alive, and I think he definitely encompasses this, even within his own work. The single from the LP is called ‘Don’t Need You Around (My Man)’ and it sees EMBRYO take influence from all aspects of dance.

He’s solidified from the get go a crunchy percussion line that screams “clean”. His sound is raw, one that continues to go undefined, but is definitely characteristic of his own sound. It’s a soulful mix of house, dance and pop. Most notably however, is the arrangement of the actual track. Structurally, it showcases the right sounds at the right times, and it just feels right.

The vocals EMBRYO has included on the track serve the sound well, and further push this subtle soulful element he’s done so well in capturing.

‘Don’t Need You Around (My Man)’ is just a taste of the LP, but all the same, it is definitely a defining track for EMBRYO.
