Live Review: Spirit Faces 'Cloudplay' ft. BUOY (Time Pilot Remix)

WA Producers Time Pilot turn Spirit Faces' track 'Cloudplay' completely on its head and turn it into an all out club jam!

WA producers TIME PILOT have hit the ground running this year and are wasting no time continuing their successful run of releases from 2014. After their huge rework of PEKING DUK's Take Me Over featuring SAFIA last year, it was obvious these two were a pair to watch. Now, with their latest remix of SPIRIT FACESCloudplay ft BUOY, it's clear TIME PILOT mean business.

Not unlike their fellow Western Australians SLUMBERJACK, these guys know how to make a big track. What was originally quite a strange, unconventional tune has been completely turned on it's head in this remix. They've swapped xylophones and whimsical vocals for all-out bass jams, sirens and whirring synths.

Kicking things off with an explosion of sound, you know you're in for something big. BUOY's vocals echo over a bed of atmospheric synths melting into each other until the track breaks down into an almost dub style hook. It then catapults into heavy electronica as the bass kicks into overdrive and the skittering beats come in. Sirens sound, BUOY cries, the synth bursts overlap one another until it suddenly falls back.

Feeling like you're falling back to Earth, the vocals almost sound calming as the track lets you go for a moment. Sure enough though, the thumping bass kicks back in to take things higher and the huge hook returns in full swing. A cheeky triangle ding signals it's time to lose control again as the track soars back into the dark, dingy club it belongs in.

TIME PILOT seem to have managed to navigate from laidback and gentle to huge monstrosities with almost impossible ease. If this is what they're offering up this early in the year, it's safe to say even bigger things are still to come from one of WA's most exciting acts!
