SoundCloud Wrap: Simon Caldwell
Entertaining us since the 90s, SIMON CALDWELL has played all the genres to all the crowds you can imagine and with this he has developed a rare talent to understand his audience and give them exactly what they want (something they don’t even know).
He brings an element of funk & soul which delves into the deep house scene which transpires into techno or hip hop or anything he fancies, he makes it work.
If you want to witness one of his sets in action, he will be playing Astral People’s Summer Dance series this Sunday 11th January at the National Art School in Sydney. As a taster check out his Syndey Boiler room set from last year below.
So as we know this guy has impeccable taste, and he’s really tasted it all, so we asked him to give us an insight into his top SoundCloud favourites.
‘Here you will find over a hundred quality house and techno mixes. You may know it already, but if you don’t, you can thank me later.’
GUESTMIX ‘Al Dobson Jr’
‘Nice jazz funk etc mix from out of London from Peckham’s Finest, Al Dobson Jr. He also released an EP for Rhythm Section, a great Peckham label and party. One to watch.’
MIKE WHO ‘Sucker For Love Vol 3′
‘Dope mix of lurve songs from Mr Who, ranging from soul to R’n’B to reggae to boogie. Put it on and turn the lights down low.’
MORPHOSIS ‘Terraforma Session’
‘In contrast, this is a mix by Morphosis, a Lebanese techno artist living in Berlin via Italy, recorded live. He uses two turntables, an 808 drum machine and an echo box to make mind-melting, unpredictable and downright strange sounds.’
ANDROMEDA PODCAST 2014
‘Take your pick of Magda’s awesome mixes, this is just the latest. It’s a deep techno affair and, as always, a thoughtful and beautifully constructed mix.’
MYSTERIES OF THE DEEP XXV ‘Chris SSG’ (Sonic Levitation)
‘An ambient mix by the founder of mmml ssgs for Mysteries of the Deep. Proper ambient, deep and trippy.’
HUNEE ‘Wonderground’ [DJ Mix]
‘An eclectic mix of downtempo moodiness, soul, boogie and house by this awesome DJ. Hunee is really a proper crate digger and has that knack of making obscure music accessible.’
‘An amazing collage of disparate sounds, from blues to classical to house, with some great spoken word snippets. The whole thing feels like it’s in a smoky absinthe bar somewhere in dark Europe.’
CLAIRE MORGAN @ God Goes Deep
‘Another ambient mix, this time from Claire Morgan, Aussie in Berlin. A mix of electronic and classical, it’s a very classy affair.’
