Live Review: Mite ‘Horn Anthem’

12 February 2015 | 9:51 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Atlanta based producer and Embassy Records producer Mite has just dropped his EP. Titled 'Locker Code', the single 'Horn Anthem' showcases a hip-hop fusion.

Hip-hop fusion genres are really rapidly appearing out of the woodwork, particularly as of late. It’s cool to hear it make its way subtly through dance genres, particularly more in the production side than in the vocal side.

Atlanda-based producer MITE knows all about this, and we can certainly hear it. He’s just dropped an EP through Embassy Recordings. Titled ‘Locker Code’, the EP does extreme justice in showcasing the influx of fusion sounds MITE has brought to this piece.

‘Horn Anthem’ comes from that EP, there’s only so many words you can use to describe a track like this. It’s got elements of trap in the syncopated hi-hat tip-tapping away in the background. However, elements of hip hop also come in through the percussion, but more in the beat and the snare than anything.

It’s interesting in its delivery, with a guitar-like melodic line bouncing and dotting its way over the forefront of the track, only to be replaced by a sweeping sound that moves up and down like a glissando.

‘Horn Anthem’ is really collected in its structure and the sounds MITE has elected to showcase in this track are quite different, exposing a different side to dance.
