Live Review: Neighbour ‘Light Breaker (Cyclist Remix)’

17 February 2015 | 9:00 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Cyclist has joined Neighbour in this fantastic disco recreation, and has put his own spin on single ‘Light Breaker’ featuring the vocals of Piper Davis.

Vancouver based disco producer NEIGHBOUR has a knack for making some fantastic revivalist beats. It was a genre that became lost for a few decades or so, but with the uprising of electronic music, disco has become widely recognised and hugely prominent.

I love that the lineage of disco has been continued with a few key artists almost passing along this legacy of sound to and from each other, and it really is starting to become its own global community. CYCLIST has joined NEIGHBOUR in this fantastic niche recreation, and has put his own spin on single ‘Light Breaker’ featuring the vocals of PIPER DAVIS.

The remix is out through Homebreakin Records, and will soon be released as a 12”. The Toronto based producer has killed it with this one.

It’s dirty disco, and it feels warped and extremely contemporary. It’s a modern take on an old classic, and it feels so right.

‘Light Breaker’ has an infectious beat, and is one that is hard to pass by. There’s inklings of deep house surging through the pockets of the track, and I think that’s what I particularly like best about this remix.

CYCLIST has created something fantastic here that is not only innovative, but it’s also quite historic in its references.
