Live Review: Tei Shi 'Bassically' (HONNE Remix)

19 February 2015 | 11:00 pm | Emma Jones

Gearing up for her biggest year yet, Tei Shi has recruited UK duo HONNE for a remix of her huge track 'Bassically'.

Last year, after a little break, TEI SHI burst back into the scene with her explosive track 'Bassically'. Showing off her impossible vocal range, and her new penchant for expert production, this track saw TEI SHI turn over a new leaf and become one of 2014's most exciting names.

UK duo HONNE seem to agree with us, as they've just released one of the better remixes I've heard in this young year!

Smashing it's way to the top of of Hype Machine's charts, Bassically was the type of blog friendly electro pop that saw TEI SHI really begin to rise in her career. It's only fitting that HONNE remix this track, as they too entered this year as an act to watch. Ahead of her UK/European tour where she is supporting JUNGLE, this remix will surely put TEI SHI back in people's ears and minds.

Considerably stripped back compared to the original, HONNE have decided to keep TEI SHI's voice in the foreground, especially in the builds where she truly soars. Instead, they've created a bed of whirring synths and crisp, clean claps and shattering crashes to sweep over the pulsing bassline.

It's refined, and although they have chosen to highlight TEI SHI's vocals so strongly, HONNE have still done themselves justice in showing what they're capable of here too. Where the original track grew bigger and bigger as it went along, HONNE's remix seems to build almost instantly and remains there, keeping it's intensity for the remainder of the track.

It's safe to say this year will be TEI SHI's biggest yet, with her forthcoming EP Verde out April 13 (featuring Bassically). She is also set to tour for May and June, as well as joining the end of JUNGLE's UK tour and performing at the UK's Parklife and Field Day.
