Live Review: Tove Styrke ‘Ego’ (Bearson Remix)

18 March 2015 | 12:00 am | Katie Rowley

Norway's 19 year old Bearson offers an indie-pop influenced take on Tove Styrke's lovely track, 'Ego', just in time for her upcoming SXSW shows.

Norway’s Bearson appears to be 2015’s newest star. Evolving his music from a selection of tropical house tunes at the end of last year to a much more indie pop influenced sound, his latest effort is a remix of fellow Scandinavian Tove Styrke’s lovely track, ‘Ego’.

Compared to the original, Bearson slows the vocals down but picks the beat up with a warping synth and disco ready thud. At the chorus he plays with the voice so that it sounds like a distorted pirouette.

Tove Styrke isn’t doing too badly herself, with some great shows lined up for SXSW (Neon Gold Party, Hype Hotel, Nylon Party). Bearson’s buoyant version contains well chopped vocals and fun rhythms that will get you bopping in your seat for sure.

It’s a successful remix from LA’s Next Wave Records producer, and shows some ambition and promise from the sprightly 19 year old.
