Live Review: Moon Holiday 'Prince' (Official Video)

4 March 2015 | 10:58 pm | Emma Jones

Moon Holiday has released the film clip to her beautiful new track, 'Prince', featuring sparse soundscapes and bedrooms full of candles.

Having already collaborated with FLUME pre-world domination, supporting TYCHO and after the success of her 2014 single Rid UMOON HOLIDAY continues her journey as one of the most exciting female artists in the game.

With her intricate, meticulous production and soft, gentle yet captivating voice, Alex Ward (her real name) has just shown she's here to stay with the release of her latest clip, Prince.

Paving the way for this latest single, her release of Rid U last year left me dying for more. Her sparse soundscapes and dynamic vocal range was as impressive as it was ambitious, catapulting her into the league of KELELA or FKA TWIGS with their similar style. However, comparisons such as these take away from just how special and beautiful MOON HOLIDAY's tracks are, with Prince being no exception to that.

Pounding, heavy bass drives the track as her vocals caress the melody, with samples interjecting throughout. Vocal distortion makes the almost dark tune seem a little more playful, albeit a little eerie as well. Enthralling and intimate, MOON HOLIDAY shows a powerful side to her with Prince, and is an exciting step forward in her sound.

The accompanying visuals are just as beautiful as the song itself, featuring scenes of Ward on a bed (one in a room with hundreds of dinner candles as the background), but interspersed with scenes of what looks like a demolition site. The whole clip is dark, adding to the mysterious, subdued nature of the track, as well as adding to the intimacy and personal nature as Ward dances to her song.

Prince is the second single off her forthcoming EP, Second Life and is up for free download now via her SoundCloud.
