Live Review: HEALTH 'STONEFIST'

11 June 2015 | 11:30 am | Tom Hutchins

HEALTH have always been abrasive, but this album seems to offer more intimate moments with the LA natives.

One of their most overtly personal themed tracks, 'STONEFIST' takes off exactly where 'NEW COKE' concluded. You're welcomed by the same ridiculously powerful bass booms and razor sharp guitars pulsating, before everything drops down for the almost angelic vocals from .

As he states "we both know, love's not in our hearts", there's a deeper connection to be made - and it's this space that allows both the band and the listener to catch their breath. HEALTH have always been abrasive, but this album seems to offer more intimate moments with the LA natives. Darker and more honest subtleties are on display in between all of the violent sounds and raw energy, and that's incredibly exciting. They may not have love in their hearts, but they're showing you what is left behind.

DEATH MAGIC is out August 7 via Caroline Australia/Loma Vista/Fiction.
