20SYL (pronounced ‘vin’syl’ from his first name Sylvain) is a beatmaker/producer from Nantes, France. He’s teamed up with Fresno rapper Fashawn for this latest catchy hip hop mash up.

As well as providing the vocals for the track, rapper/MC Fashawn features in the new video. Bar after bar after bar, the MC denounces those who lack originality and work by way of copy/pasting, rather than true cultivation – the song’s title is clear.

As the clip plays on, the screen becomes fractured and fragmented along cracked glass and mirrors, as 20syl and the rapper begin to switch clothes and appearances, all the while sharing the same look of confusion.

The beat is pure hip-hop with an interesting nu-jazz celtic flute thing that makes an appearance throughout. It’s a complex production with a valid message – the track is catchy and infectious, and 20syl keeps things exciting and unexpected with random cat samples and interesting accents.

20syl is celebrating the release of his excellent Motifs II EP, which dropped earlier last month via On and On Records.
