Live Review: The Acid 'Ra' (Weval Remix)

8 July 2015 | 12:11 pm | Hannah Galvin

Dutch duo, Weval, have beautifully remixed The Acid's, 'Ra'; a track that originally featured on the group's debut LP, Liminal.

Transatlantic trio, THE ACID, dropped their gorgeously delicate debut, Liminal, mid-2014. Completely unlike anything we'd heard before, the torch has since been carried over to Dutch duo, WEVAL, as they've crafted their stunning interpretation of The Acid's, 'Ra'.

Liminal houses an abundance of dramatic substance, creating quite an atmospheric environment for the listener to be immersed in. Originally unfolding subtle percussive detail against a hollow vocal and dim guitar picking, Weval has entranced, 'Ra' with the same amount of refrain; except now it's bitingly sultry.

Flirting with the tampered vocal of Ry x, we witness the birth and maturity of a dutiful melody line. The key element to the sleek and fascinating mood of Weval's interpretation, its growth is influenced by surrounding keywork and industrial soundscapes.

Eventually breaking free of its conditioned cocoon, the now escaped melody concludes 'Ra' with heads knocked back; for we slowly lose sight of this wonderful creature fluttering quickly away above us.
