Live Review: MIYNT 'Civil War'

31 July 2015 | 2:11 pm | Emma Jones

Stockholm artist MIYNT got people's attention with a stripped down Britney Spears cover, but caught everyone by surprise with the release of 'Civil War'.

Sometimes you come across a song that stops you in your tracks and makes you forget everything you were doing except for listening to that song. For me, that is what happened with MIYNT's 'Civil War'.

From the first few seconds, the staggering wall of noise that immediately envelops you is pierced with her heavenly voice, swirling in amongst the cacophony that is laid down. Expertly produced, the dark song trudges and crashes it's way along, it's dark lyrics delivered with an unsuspecting sweetness from MIYNT's delicate voice.

The Stockholm artist positively smashes through genres and boundaries, hurdling into new territory with her eclectic sound and fierce, means-business style. Practically blowing up the internet, 'Civil War' caught the blogosphere by complete surprise, making MIYNT a name not easily forgotten.

'Civil War' comes as even more of a surprise given the fact she first caught the internet's attention with a Britney Spears cover. When you hear that track, and then this, you're almost left double checking it's the same person. In a time where genres and sub-genres and continually created and merged together, MIYNT delivers something that doesn't really fit anywhere, and that is perhaps what makes her so exciting.

Her debut release is set to drop August 21 via B3SCI Records, and is definitely a release we can't wait for.
