Live Review: R.W. Grace 'Shell' (Official Video)

15 July 2015 | 9:43 am | Emma Jones

With each new move, Perth newly renamed singer RW Grace gets better and better, and her clip for her track 'Shell' is no exception.

R.W. GRACE (once known as Grace Woodroofe, then as just Grace) has had a bumpy start to her musical career, but changing her name for the third time, and consequently re-examining herself and her sound, could have perhaps been the best thing she could have done.

'Shell' dropped a few weeks ago, heralding in the new era for the Perth singer, and now she has released some accompanying visuals for the track. If the dark, eerie vibes were anything to go by, it's too be expected that some weird stuff would go on in this clip, but we definitely didn't expect this.

What looks like a futuristic, dystopian take on what could either be a jail or a hospital, this sci-fi clip for 'Shell' sees R.W. Grace get dark and weird. Featuring images of her being escorted through the prison environment, having a computer chip implanted on her back, being strapped to a bed and (spoiler alert) losing an arm is distressing enough, let along having that interspersed with images of her struggling against her tied up arms.

The clip is sinister, but could perhaps hold a deeper meaning. As Woodroofe sings "You know you'll see/ I'm not who I used to be" she is presented with her robotic and disfigured self. What could be a symbol for her past, and the singer being confronted with it, or could be something else entirely, it certainly does make for one hell of a visual ride.

Totally enthralling from start to finish, R.W. Grace  continues to really come into her own with 'Shell', and has us extremely excited to see what she'll do next.
