Live Review: MIYNT 'Civil War' (Official Video)

18 August 2015 | 11:19 am | Emma Jones

Swedish rising start MIYNT reaffirms our predictions that she is definitely one to watch with the release of the official visuals for her track 'Civil War'.

It took about five seconds for us to be hooked on Swedish artist MIYNT and her single 'Civil War', so it took less than that to be hooked all over again with the release of the accompanying visuals. Sultry, dark and hard hitting, the official video for the track is strange and slightly unnerving, but just as enthralling as the track itself.

Strange scenes of MIYNT and her friends in elaborate rooms -  complete with swan and deer statues, vintage furniture and grand fittings - make up most of the clip for 'Civil War', with the gang's outfits matching their surroundings in each of the separate settings. Slow moving, these scenes are interspersed with shots of the ocean and the forest, as well as some stunning portrait shots of the characters.

The thunderous roar of 'Civil War' is juxtaposed with the quaint and soft settings in the earlier stages of the clip, but as the hypnotic dance scenes enter the fray it all kind of starts to make sense. MIYNT and her friends physically embody the waves that you hear in the song, and emulate the ocean with their bodies. It's this subtle meaning underlying MIYNT and her music that makes her so intriguing.

Her debut album is set to drop just next week via B3SCI Records, and is definitely a record we can't wait to get into our ears. If this track is anything to go by, we are probably in for a few surprises from the Swedish rising star.
