Live Review: Kwabs 'Layback'

13 September 2015 | 7:44 pm | Emma Jones

There isn't much UK singer Kwabs can't do, and his latest single 'Layback' - a rework of a track he made several years ago - is a testimony of his talent.

There is no denying that KWABS has one of the best voices going around at the moment, so you can pretty much guarantee that whatever he is releasing it's going to sound pretty good. However, his latest track 'Layback' is all that and more. Having previously released it several years ago, Kwabs himself has reworked his own song into the soulful, synth-laden jam that really shows what he's made of.

Synth flourishes, glitchy samples and crisp, piercing beats are the back bones of this new version of 'Layback', before Kwabs' incredible voice glides over the top. There is a palpable energy in the newfound soulful vibes heard particularly in the chorus, with Kwabs effortlessly showing off his vocal chops with almost too much ease.

This modern rework shows that Kwabs really does have what it takes to run in the big leagues, and stands to reason why he's now working with the likes of DISCLOSURE on their new album. Anticipation has been running high for his own debut album, Love + War, which thankfully comes out today. We don't know much, but what we do know is good music when we hear it, and Kwabs is something really special.
