Live Review: Nao 'Bad Blood'

23 October 2015 | 2:20 pm | Emma Jones

UK singer/songwriter Nao is one of this year's most exciting breakthrough acts and with each release she just gets better, including her latest 'Bad Blood'.

One of 2015's biggest breakout acts is undoubtedly NAO. The young UK singer/songwriter possesses one of the best voices we've heard in a long, long time, and with each and every release she continually outdoes herself. Her latest single, 'Bad Blood', is yet another example of this, and is more proof that she is a serous contender in the international game.

Modern production flourishes enrich her show-stopping voice, her honeyed lilt soaring over sharp synth jabs, guitar shrieks and crashing beats. Her impeccable lyricism once again on display, Nao is singing right for your heart, and you can't help but let her in. She's powerful in her swagger, refined in her vocal control, and infectious in her arrangements - all the ingredients for a real star in the making.

Encompassing elements of soul and pop wrapped up with warm electronic leanings, Nao could easily be described to many predecessors that have come before her, but to do so would be a disservice to her originality and unique style. Not caring what people think, she sticks to her guns and works everything to her advantage, and the result are sublime tracks, just like 'Bad Blood'.

Taking a step away from her native lo-fi sounds, Nao is sounding bigger and better than ever and it works so well in her favour. With two critically acclaimed EPs under her belt as well as collaborations with none other than Migueland DisclosureNao now has her sights set on a debut album tipped to come out early next year, and we could not be more excited if we tried.
