Music out of France probably conjures up some memories of hellish French class videos in high school, dodgy techno and the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. HOUSSE DE RACKET are back with their track ‘The Tourist’ and a spellbinding video proving the French get it.

Music out of France probably conjures up some memories of hellish French class videos in high school, dodgy techno and the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. HOUSSE DE RACKET are back with their track ‘The Tourist’ and a spellbinding video proving the French get it.

Housse de Racket is Pierre Leroux and Victor le Masne, who have both performed as additional members for Air and Pheonix. They are gearing up for the release of their third album later this month via Kuskus Records.

‘The Tourist’ is groovy, with a repetitive pop beat. Housse de Racket specialise in synth pop, and this is exactly what is delivered. But synth pop could be the awkward French music you think of, they create a sound that is distinctly European and yet charmingly unique.

The video is kind of reminds you of a lot of things, it is hard to put your finger on it all. From the voice of Noel Gallagher, to a travel ad from the 90’s, to awkward head banging and flooded out festivals. It has some alluring views of city lights, rooftops, desolate beaches and some dazzling city icons. It ends with an explosion of fireworks and a crowd going crazy in a town square, you become part of the party, with a sense of fomo still lingering.

The track progresses from something melancholy to something hectic and powerful. Housse de Racket sum it up nicely - “Music is a trip and we're all tourists.”

The Tourist album comes out on October 30. You can pre-order it now.
