Live Review: Morly turns somber into beautiful on 'The Choir'

20 January 2016 | 1:57 pm | Emma Jones

Minneapolis' Morly has teamed up with producer Psymun for 'The Choir' - a minimal but stunning track that is already a contender for best of the year.

It's been a minute since the release of MORLY's EP, In Defense Of My Muse, but already she's reminding us of what she's made of with her latest single, 'The Choir'.

Teaming up with Minneapolis producer PSYMUN (Morly is also from Minneapolis), the pair have created a sombre, soft and delicate soundscape which you can't help but get lost in.

Melding minimal electro with lo-fi pop and absolutely stunning vocals, 'The Choir' is an expertly pulled off track. Coming on slow then pouncing on you when you least expect it, the pair bounce off each other in harmony as the track glides along. Morly has a crystalline voice that pierces the thick synth bed before the bass really kicks in.

'The Choir' shifts and changes direction in sudden jabs, but never once sounds like it's not in total control of Morly and Psymun. The sparse background never feels empty, and instead lets each separate element hold it's own in the fray. It's a truly captivating and beautiful track, and is already an early contender for one of our favourites of this year.
