What do you get when you combine two of Sweden’s most influential musicians? 'Trust Me': a momentous ten whole minutes of dance floor magic.

What do you get when you combine two of Sweden’s most influential musicians? A momentous ten whole minutes of dance floor magic.

Swedish House aficionado MR. TOPHAT has collaborated with international spectacle ROBYN to culminate a lengthy tune of disco bliss. ‘Trust Me’ is the first track to be released off of a forthcoming EP of the same name, set to be released in January of next year.

Both Robyn and Mr. Tophat have individually created some of the most successful dance music to be exported out of Sweden. Already knowing each other personally for longer than a decade, the artists have collaborated their own sweet sounds in order to produce a spiral of disco beats and minimalistic vocals.

With hit singles like ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ and ‘Dancing on My Own’ already under her belt, Robyn has earned her stripes as a pop princess. But ‘Trust Me’ is certainly a more minimalistic approach to vocals.

Robyn hums her way through the track, her voice feeling simply like another layer in the web that has been crafted by herself and Mr. Tophat. Sharp percussion ticks away as the song gradually builds.

Four minutes into the song, things get interesting. The music transforms into crunchy robotics as the percussion becomes more resonant, Robyn’s voice shoots from a murmur to a shriek.

Another musical highlight occurs just before seven minutes. The song propels into mismatched erraticism. The melody becomes indecipherable spoken words as symbols crash in odd places. Although disjointing the otherwise smooth tune, Robyn and Mr. Tophat understand the need to continue to capture their audience so far into a song.

The Trust Me EP promises to keep up the clever technicality and flirtatious dance beats that are so prominent in its debut single. The three-track release debuts on the 13th of January next year, each song reaching ruthlessly beyond the nine-minute mark.
