Live Review: Mothica flutters above us all in stunning 'Reputation'

Heartfelt social commentary has steered musical expression through the turn of the century, and none more in their feelings than MOTHICA. The Oklahoma born artist expresses her indifference about the self-indulgence of today's society in her new single, 'Reputation'.

'Reputation' puts a meaning to a feeling we've all shared - we know it, social media and society itself has had an undeniable effect on us. Mothica, seldom the type to run away from a feeling, turns her lyrical filter off and takes a good hard look at the world surrounding her.

With the help of ICARUS MOTH, she holds a gun to vanity and self-indulgence and pulls the trigger. Rather than placing the blame on the unsuspecting victims themselves, Mothica takes aim at the system that created it, pardoning those who act in a gluttonous way, but at the same time passing over its irrelevance.

There's an air of deep relevance in what she is saying with this track however; too often we receive feelings that the place for those who seek approval from the masses in our society are dwindling, being doused in irony and recreated as a point of humour. Mothica lends a more tasteful look at the situation, herself and Icarus Moth putting together a rather light, uplifting juxtaposition piece to subside the darker premise for the song.

Mothica's vocals themselves would be enough to maybe think about playing this song on repeat for a very long time. Her voice is honest with intent, making you feel comfortable within moments of her serenade beginning. Connection established, Mothica proceeds to bring you in on her esteemed view on the world around us.

"We know they're just the type to make it all about them." Instantly speaking volumes, Mothica shares her views on those who can't put their social stature on hold long enough to truly enjoy themselves. "They don't know they're caught in their lies," Mothica sings as she suggests the majority of the self-indulgent and vain are unaware of the reputation they hold. Even that deeply rooted in likes and comment, they pay no attention to what looks back at them in their snapchats and selfies.

Along with many others, but none with such a tasteful elegance until now, Mothica has blessed us with another large piece of introspective gold for us to chip away at. A 'Must Listen' for fans of Mothica, but for those who haven't heard of the Brooklyn artist, now's your chance to be exonerated through the insight and peaceful melody of Mothica's newest featuring Icarus Moth production, 'Reputation'.
