‘Crawl’ into the new year with Gabriel Garźon-Montano’s soulful new single
‘Crawl’ is the first taste of Brooklyn-based GABRIEL GARZON-MONTANO’s upcoming album Jardin and it is one seamless blend of soul and funk. Fresh off back-to-back international tours with Lenny Kravitz, Glass Animals and label mate Mayor Hawthorne – Garzon-Montano is setting himself up for one hell of a year.
‘Crawl’ is a slow sensual jam that is carried by Gabriel’s smooth voice as he laments the intimate moments of a lover. “I act a damn fool, when you crawl around on me’ is the main hook and it surmises the sweet and simple intimacy of the song’s message. Of the song, Gabriel says, “Crawl is about making love to someone you find irresistible. It’s about honouring their beauty, and appreciating what they do for you and doing it back.” It’s a romantic and all-appreciating track that highlights the little nuances of habit formed between two people.
Yet it’s not just his voice that makes the track. The production is stunning. Gabriel worked with analog guru, Henry Hirsch to track every instrument on the song direct to tape plus multiple layers of his own vocals to create a perfectly lush sonic soundscape. The production is meticulous but not overproduced or too clean; it sounds organic and soulful which with today’s heavily produced music, is a rare feat.
Gabriel Garzon-Montano’s voice may be familiar as ‘6 8’, one of his 2014 releases was sampled by Drake on ‘Jungle’ off of If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. With Gabriel’s voice Drizzy approved, his upcoming album Jardin will be a must-listen. Gabriel says that his album will be about, “The struggles and uncertainties of the many-layered game that is America today.”
Gabriel Garzon-Montano’s album will be out the 27th of January on Stones Throw Records.
