Live Review: Jack Colwell's 'Seek The Wild' gets a stunning remix by Lonelyspeck

3 May 2017 | 7:34 am | Jackson Langford

Alright, so if you've heard the bouncing, ceaseless fun that is the original version of 'Seek The Wild', you'd know that JACK COLWELL has a voice that is completely lacquered in soul and booms at every given moment. It's this initially bizarre mixture of folk and pop music that explodes in vivid colour, like the lovechild of Grouplove and Edward Sharpe. However, LONELYSPECK has given 'Seek The Wild' the moody, slow burning remix we never knew we needed.

Lonelyspeck's stunning interpretation of the song completely flips the script and turns it entirely on its head. Instead of bouncy and energetic, the track is now brooding and spellbinding. Jack Colwell's vocals are still by all means soulful, but his Acapella against the ominous, haunting electronic melody has been injected with a sombreness that otherwise would have remained untapped. Of course, this type of subversion is not new to Lonelyspeck - if you haven't heard his entrancing cover of Fifth Harmony's 'Work From Home' then please do so immediately.

One thing that the Adelaide producer manages to keep true to the original is the song's gravitas. 'Seek The Wild', through and through, is a huge-sounding record and Lonelyspeck has maintained this. Not once are the beautiful vocals of Jack Colwell compromised in any way. In both versions, it is Colwell's amazingly mature and hearty vocals that carry the song along and Lonelyspeck has paid the utmost respect to that.
