Live Review: Brisbane producer Tabrill debuts euphoric single 'Sans'

23 May 2017 | 8:12 am | Lauren Payne

Brisbane producer Tabrill has recreated his sound and 'Sans' is his first step into a brand new universe

Let me tell you right now, there's more to TABRILL than meets the eye. These days, we have a lot of faceless producers, those artists with a name that we just cannot match a face to. At the moment, this Brisbane-based beat maker falls into this category, but that's all about to change with the release of his new single, 'Sans'.

The track feels organic, naturally moving with a storyline that may not be initially evident, but definitely makes itself known. There's a natural progression here that you can't miss and Tabrill says that's all part of the plan.

"This is the first single in which I'm branching away from the 'faceless producer' cliche, and more towards a story-driven project focusing on the Tabrill universe, more specifically, Owun; the very first Tabrill unit."

Tabrill unit?

"The Tabrill units are a secret government robot-human hybrid/weapon.

"The stories of Owun will be cryptically explained through a combination of music, artworks, and animations over the coming years to create a deep universe and history for those who wish to seek it out."

So obviously, Tabrill has a lot more music coming.

'Sans' is only a short track but still seems to create a futuristic atmosphere that still feels organic. The chorus of vocals give the track a vibrant feel whilst the digital samples add a colder element to the piece. There's a lot of contrasting textures, but somehow they seem to work together to create a special track that's unlike anything we've heard in a long time.

This is only the first track in Tabrill's new Owun universe that he says, symbolises Owun rejecting his humanity. Knowing that there are more amazing tracks like 'Sans' on the way is great, but this added storyline just makes his music even more intriguing.

We must hear more!
