Live Review: Umii reveal themselves with 'Masquerade'

8 May 2017 | 7:49 am | Ben Xerri

Umii has burst onto the scene with 'Masquerade'. 50% Reva DeVito, 50% B. Bravo, the duo are combining the best elements of R&B and modern funk.

Purple Sneakers Artists To Watch In 2017, REVA DEVITO is back! Joined with producer and frequent collaborator B. BRAVO, the duo signed to Fresh Selects records and are releasing under the alias UMII.

‘Masquerade’ is Umii’s debut single, and unlike the subject, it reveals all about the new duo. Reva DeVito’s RnB vocal presence dances in, on top of and around the nostalgic yet modern funk production of B. Bravo.

The track sets itself a laid back groove from the get-go. A series of distant, echoing chords are pulled to-and-from the front of the soundscape by soft finger-snaps, as the solo vocal eases itself on top of the synth pop instrumentation. B. Bravo adds his signature thick, funk-laden bass line which perfectly contrasts with Reva DeVito’s soprano vocals.

Umii’s debut project is coming out towards the middle of 2017. If it’s anything like ‘Masquerade’, you will want to keep an eye and an ear out for everything and anything that the duo release.
