Music often presents love as a completely black, white and a tiny bit of grey topic. It's "I love you" or "I don't love you" or some weird spot in between. To look at love like that is doing a complete disservice, as such an intense human connection is built on, layer upon layer. When relationships go awry, it becomes more difficult to discern what you're attracted to: are you attracted to your other half, what you once had with them or what you blindly believe you two could be? It's a whirlwind of emotions that are hard to put succinctly, but AMASTRO, with the help of NED PHILPOT, looks like he's done just that in 'Attracted 2'.
Amastro's gorgeous production on the track sets the scene perfectly. The way he delicately fuses synths together that completely beam from the speakers cloaks the song in a futile optimism. By then distorting these synths, stopping them without warning and overall subverting them entirely, Amastro shows chinks in the armour. But it would seem that those chinks are, if nothing else, just as beautiful. With some peppered violin notes throughout, Amastro has done his best at describing the indescribable in a non-stop flurry of technicolour.
Ned Philpot's silky smooth vocals waltz through Amastro's meticulous production with flair and splendour. "We were never what we thought we were," he sings, following a deceitfully pleasant melody. His words are anchored in remorse but also in selfless pleasure. There's a tornado of thoughts travelling through his mind, and the result is an overwhelming feeling of one's emotions leaving them stuck.
