Live Review: Baker Boy hits three for three with 'Mr. La Di Da Di'

27 April 2018 | 9:30 am | Jackson Langford

'Mr. La Di Da Di' sees Baker Boy inject an extra spring in his step on his journey to conquer the world with his music and his charm.

BAKER BOY is truly on a rocketship that shows no signs of coming back down to Earth. Between his debut single 'Cloud 9' and the monstrous, all-conquering 'Marryuna', the Arnhem Land rapper has expressed more diversity, versatility and energy than many Australian rappers do throughout their entire career. Now, with the release of new single 'Mr. La Di Da Di', Baker Boy is showing restraint and finesse, while still beaming electricity with every last bar.

With a slippery bass line that is clearly inspired by Kendrick Lamar's 'King Kunta' and the sing-along chorus that was positively made for giant festival stages, Baker Boy's energy is still the steering force in this song. While 'Mr. La Di Da Di' is nowhere near as raucous and explosive as his previous singles, Baker Boy is demonstrating a smoother, sexier delivery as he raps about the frivolity of money and how he feels wealthy enough with friends and family - a concept often left uncharted in modern music. With the first verse in English and second verse in traditional Yolngu Matha, his commitment to his community shines through with every last word.

'Mr. La Di Da Di' sees Baker Boy inject an extra spring in his step on his journey to conquer the world with his music. His charm is irresistible, his positivity is infectious, and it's especially refreshing to see an artist continue to rise yet still stay so down-to-earth right through every last bar.
