Live Review: GANZ brings balance, composure and some pretty hefty bass to his guest mix

30 July 2018 | 6:35 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Based in the Netherlands, GANZ is one of those producers that has fast come into his own, and with a distinct signature style too. He's arguably one of the most exciting producers making bass music right now, and has been for a while. Fusing trap, electronica and all of the experimental sounds in between, his extensive back catalogue boasts a masterclass in growth and achievement. Pair his penchant for great sonic taste with knowing exactly who to work with for certain sounds, and you've got an intro to his sound.

He's no stranger to us here in Australia, frequently collaborating with acts like What So NotJOY. and more recently, Aussie vocalist Luna May on his lush new single 'Let's Fly Away Together'.

'Let's Fly Away Together' was the first taste of his forthcoming EP, Skin In The Game to be released on Steve Aoki's hugely seminal label Dim Mak Records in the near future. More recently, he's released a massive collaboration with Amsterdam-based duo CUT_.

Titled 'Slippin'', this is sure to be one you'll hear out in the club soon. It's filled with that same trappy goodness that you can expect from a GANZ track, but it's subdued to suit the sweet vocals contributed by CUT_. The production works really hard to be both a banger and to also compliment the vocal style, which I think is something he's really focused on centring with this particular body of work.

Ahead of his forthcoming release, we got GANZ to put together a hefty little guest mix for our radio show on FBi Radio. The mix aired on Saturday night, but we've got it in full below with a tracklist too so you can get acquainted with his choices and some of his own cuts too.

The mix is an absolute dream - featuring some monolithic (and I've got to say - extremely underrated) tracks from some left-of-centre producers like UmruSinjin Hawke, PC Music labelhead A.G. CookSilva and of course some Aussie heavyweights like Nina Las Vegas, Swick and even his own take on an Alison Wonderland favourite.

You can listen back to Purple Sneakers on FBi Radio here.
