Demon Days take us through Perth's hidden inspirational gems

13 July 2018 | 11:41 am | Staff Writer

Perth band DEMON DAYS have been gracing us with neo-soul infused bops for a while now. We can't get enough of their warmth, infusing their sound with jazz influences and a hefty dose of funk, making each and every single an utter delight to listen to. Enthralling from the very first second, they maintain a grip on your attention as their kaleidoscopic sounds weave their way into your mind. It's safe to say we're big fans (obvs), which is why we're so stoked they're about to release a new EP and head out on tour to celebrate!

Titled Magic Eye, this EP is set to drop next month and the band will be playing a few special dates in celebration. To get to know them a little better before they do, we asked them if they could take us through a few of their favourite spots in Perth. They told us they're "sick of people thinking there is nothing to do in [our] beloved hometown. Whilst urban sprawl has spread the town far to the point of inconvenience, the sense of family and hunger for creativity remains prevalent. There’s a youthful air to our little city which makes us US. Here is a list of 4 hidden gems in Perth that make us feel inspired."

Satchmos

Walking down Fitzgerald street you would have to be absolutely bonkers not to go to Satchmos café. Sunday mornings you’ll find a bunch of jazz cats sipping on espressos and eating the best bloody bagels you’ll ever have whilst listening to some live jazz ensembles. So many late afternoons have been spent here eating incredible pastries that the owners mum makes (how sweet!) and having banter with the hilarious staff. And do you know what else…. You can get beer there! Or an old fashion if you are that way inclined. Honestly, if you go anywhere else for breakfast or lunch you’re a fucking joker.

Mojos

If one is looking to digest some of the local musical fruits of Perth, Mojos Bar is always there to dish up the most delicious morsels almost every night of the year. From playing many first shows, to seeing some of my new (and old) favourite bands, each memory is tinted with the bars funky atmosphere and a comfortingly predictable population of regulars. Top it all off with a drunken hotdog from the legendary Dogtown vendor out the front for a scientifically proven good night.

Hyde Park

You’re hungover but you don’t want to stay in bed and feel sorry for yourself but still want to relax. Here’s what you do! Head to CHU bakery and pick yourself up the cheesiest toastie they got with a big arse coffee and then treat yourself with a salted caramel donut because you got out of bed. Then just walk across the road to Hyde Park and get lost watching the cute ducks and beautiful surroundings. For those summery days this is the perfect place to have a picnic or just read a book.

Late Night Valentines

Late Night Valentines is that place you end up at 2am and there is a cool girl with a short fringe playing African jungle music in a dark basement with smoke and you are just in a trance. There are good vibes and everyone is having the best boogie of their life and you’ve found yourself ordering a funky cocktail or 5. LNV is the by far the best club in Perth and caters for lots of people. On summer afternoons they get funky bands and DJs to play on the amphitheatre outside. The energy this place creates is so loving and comforted through the amazing music selection.
