Live Review: Groove City keep on winning with new single, 'Gold Chevrolet'

11 September 2018 | 9:26 am | Melinda Amott

Groove City release fourth single of the year, sign to Maker Agency and announce tour including slot at Lost Paradise Festival

If GROOVE CITY were created in a science lab, the folks in white coats would’ve have been Chromeo, Total Giovani, Client Liasion, and maybe even Donna Summer, and a bit of the Bee Gees for good measure. With their latest single, ‘Gold Chevrolet’, you can hear those exact influences, plus many more from the kings and queens of Disco Funk Past.

The duo has put together three minutes and 27 seconds of sexually sharp basslines with seductive vocals and happy-go-lucky hooks that are mood lifting and empowering to whatever cause, it even makes you feel as theatric as Groove City themselves. The lyrics are simple yet effective whilst telling the story of a classy, take-no-shit lady who cruises around in a, you guessed it, gold Chevrolet. The funky instruments that snap and flow on all throughout the track intensely push through their unique identity, from urgent bass to explosive guitars.

Having already performed at Groovin the Moo earlier this year, and having releases three disco dance singles this year, it's safe to say Groove City are intent on making this year theirs. Along with the busy start to 2018 is an incredibly busy end since the duo has just signed to Maker Agency, have been announced to play main stage at Lost Paradise AND have an Australian and NZ tour beginning as we speak.
