Live Review: No one does techno like Horowitz, and his guest mix is proof

3 October 2018 | 5:52 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

I think you'd be hard pressed to find an Aussie techno producer/DJ that has as avid an auditory vision for their work than Melbourne's HOROWITZ. You could definitely classify him as a staple in Aussie techno, solidifying himself over the years as a heavyweight in the genre, gaining notoriety internationally too.

With releases spanning across labels like Wollongong's Unknown Records and the seminal Motorik and recognition from some of the world's best like BBC Radio 1's Pete TongTigaThe Black Madonna and more, it's not difficult to see that Horowitz is one of the best in the game.

His most recent foray is another release with Unknown Records, and it comes in the form of 'Oh Lui'.

It's abrasive, it's hard hitting and best of all, I think it brings together all of the different moods and sounds Horowitz has previously explored, smashes them altogether and emerges as a finely processed, absolute slapper of a track.

The original comes with a deep, tech house rework from DJ Heure and a stripped-back take from Sly Faux.

To celebrate his huge comeback, we've got a massive guest mix right here from Horowitz himself, and let me tell you, he absolutely does not hold back. The mix kicks off with 'Oh Lui' and then descends into an epic selection of techno cuts.

The mix aired last week on Purple Sneakers on FBi Radio, but you can hear the mix in full as well asview the tracklist below. Be sure to tune in to Purple Sneakers on FBi Radio every Saturday from 5-6pm. Dial in at 94.5, DAB+ or stream online at fbiradio.com.
