Drawn from her forthcoming debut EP, Mars Violet, Brisbane producer and vocalist AZURA has released the introspective and charming single ‘Yours’. The song is, quite simply, beautiful and showcases the artist’s skills as both a skilled music maker and singer.

‘Yours’ is a very vocally-focussed track (and why wouldn’t it be- what a voice!) and to this element Azura has applied layering and reverb effects to lend a somewhat ethereal feel to the overall piece. This style of vocals suit the theme of the song marvellously, as ‘Yours’ is essentially a love song about realising your feelings for someone and the terror associated with acting upon said feelings. Scary but beautiful stuff. Production-wise, Azura has employed some upbeat, dancey drums and futuristic synths to offset the softness of her own vocals, which creates some balance and also some pretty interesting textural contrasts. She’s also had help with co-production from Hamish Patrick and the mixing skills of Tristan Hoogland (who has worked with artists like Golden Vessel, Woodes and OKBadlands). If you were going to throw in a slow dance at a techno rave, then this would be the ideal track.

‘Yours’ is the third to be released by the artist in the lead up to Mars Violet’s release and definitely the most emotionally-charged. Previous tracks ‘Meteor Shower’ and ‘Colour Dream’ share similar vibes in terms of texture and vocals but are slightly more dancefloor-y and seemingly less sensitive. Interestingly, Azura has said that ‘Yours’ is the first song she’s ever written that doesn’t really have a chorus. Hey, whatever works, works.
