It’s taken five versions and a few years, but ‘Flicker’ has finally been released as the newest single from Brisbane artist KEELAN MAK. Arriving off the back of a successful time at this year’s BIGSOUND festival/conference, it is clear that the up and coming singer, songwriter and producer has waited for just the right moment to share ‘Flicker’ with the world - and that time has arrived.

Lyrically, it’s easy to understand how this track could have taken a while to evolve with themes surrounding unrequited love, youth, developing emotional intelligence and eventually self forgiveness, ‘Flicker’ offers profound insight into the often childish conundrums of high school dating (think about your own experiences and try not to squirm in your seat, we dare you) and then reminds us all that we’re only human and all make mistakes with this stuff, even perhaps when we’re a little older.

Musically, the track is slightly anthem-y at times, and definitely something that you could work up a boogie to on the dance floor. It has that synth-pop vibe with an extra lashing of glam thanks to the echoing and silky vocals from Mak.

Having only launched his career at the beginning of the year with single ‘Weigh You Down’, Mak has been doing immensely well for himself supporting artists E^ST, Matthew Young and Alice Ivy and also winning himself the AMEX Music Backers Grant. It’s definitely a good sign for the artist as he ventures towards the end of 2018 and it will be interesting to see what else Mak has in store for us. Only time will tell!

Keelan Mak is also throwing a launch event for ‘Flicker’ next week at Brisbane venue Bloodhound Bar, you can check it out here.
