Artists to Watch in 2019: SADIVA

5 January 2019 | 6:01 pm | Julie Fenwick

SADIVA is quick becoming a staple in the Melbourne music scene, making beats at various clubs around the city. 2019 is looking to be an influential year.

We first wrote about SADIVA early in 2017. 'Lethal Chops' had just been released, 'Bodega State of Mind' was upcoming and tours to the US and Canada were on the horizon. Now approaching 2019, SADIVA’s schedule has stayed just as busy, and her achievements just as impressive, even more so.

2018 saw the release of her LP, Minutes, dropped mid-May, and it was one that gained attention among fans and fellow producers around the globe. The record saw the beat maker honing her signature lo-fi sounds, weaving her way through 19 solid tracks that tittered on the edges of hazy New York influences, underground jazz clubs and introspective hip hop. ‘Wit U’, the last track on the vinyl’s A-side, is the featured and standout tune, released aside an anime-laced video.

Effective in its simplicity, the music video not only highlights the derelict nature of the Melbourne music scene (in a good way), but gives us a taste of the kind of live performance SADIVA gives. Titled one of the most dedicated and hardworking beatmakers in not only the Australian scene but the global scene, SADIVA proves this in her animated live production.

In 2018, her music lead her to various locations around the world including the US, Canada and Japan, landed her on Bandcamp's ‘Best Beat Tapes of 2018’ and 'Women of the World Vol. 1', which included SADIVA & 28 other female producers in a curated mix presenting up and coming talents of a global-standard.

Three years after she broke into the Melbourne music scene, SADIVA continues to make her rounds proving to be a staple at various well-known venues around the city including Workshop, Horse Bazaar, Laundry and Section 8.

In a city full of producers and many great up and coming talent SADIVA stands out as one with unique selection, production and a sensational live performance. Influential things to come from her in 2019.
