Getting to know Sydney hip-hop DJ Carolina Gasolina
If you're a hip-hop head, you've probably either seen Sydney selector CAROLINA GASOLINA around town, or on the airwaves presenting at FBi Radio. She kicked off her DJ career back in May last year, and has since gone from strength to strength, not only playing shows as herself, but DJing for hip hop artists all across Sydney too.
Even though she's only been spinning on the decks for less than a year, she's already hit some major milestones, including supporting RL Grime and Baauer at their massive co-headline show at Sydney's Metro Theatre and Tasman Keith at his single launch in August last year.
Aside from DJing, she works behind the scenes for BBE, and more recently, was artist liaison for Colombian pop artist Kali Uchis while she was here for FOMO.
Carolina's passion for music extends beyond just spinning tracks, so it's exciting to see a local selector with such gusto getting some huge opportunities both on the decks and off.

She's got a couple of shows coming up, including playing at the Bacardi El Coco party at Mountain Sounds Festival on the Central Coast in the coming weeks, so we asked her a couple of questions to get to know Carolina and what she's got going on at the moment.
Who are you?
I'm Carolina De La Piedra aka Carolina Gasolina - I'm a Peruvian born, Sydney gal raised in Western Sydney and now I'm lucky enough to reside in Redfern. I'm a hip hop DJ, host, work in events and touring and do a bunch of other little things here and there.
What have you been up to this past year?
I picked up DJing in May 2018 and I couldn't believe the supportive response, that in itself has been such a highlight. We have such a supportive music community in Sydney. It's dope! A highlight would probably have to be my first gig BTW. Shit was sold out and when I rocked up to Freda's there was a line around the corner! I was so nervous but it was so much fun! Also supporting Baauer and RL Grime at the Metro with Nes was amazing! Playing at the Naidoc Week Lansdowne party was huge as well! So many great moments! I also got more involved with behind the scenes and worked for BBE & FOMO as an Artist Liaison for Kali Uchis! It was such an amazing experience and I'd really love to work more in the Artist Liaison/Tour Manager area!!
What are we talking, vibe-wise?
I really love to keep everyone dancing so I'll always play super fun music! A mix of what you've heard before (DRAKE!), with a mix of what you haven't. You'll probably hear some grimey tracks as well as some Sango vibes. A mix of fun, feel good vibes!
What can we expect from you moving forward?
OMG, this year is going so fast already! But yes exciting stuff coming up! I'm playing at Laneway on the 3rd DJing for my sissy Stelly G, of course looking forward to my set at the Barcardi El Coco stage at Mountain Sounds on the 16th Feb!! And you an also catch me playing at Secret Garden on 22nd Feb!!
