Live Review: Maxy Cozy brings house & breaks together on his toe-tapping guest mix

29 January 2019 | 10:12 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Sydney producer MAXY COZY's makin' waves with his soothing take on electronic music. With a span of releases out on local labels like Mozaick RecordsStart Local Records Eclectic., the last year has seen him hit the releases hard, and even though we're less than a month into the new year, he's still got some good stuff to show for it.

'Over' is his latest output, coming to us just last week on Start Local Records' debut compilation titled Dance Ready Edits, and it's a banger and and a half.

The sampling is huge on this one, taking sounds from Drake and putting them into this house context. With heavy snares and a crisp hi-hat driving this one, the instrumental is never lost underneath the sharpness of the percussion, and if anything, it's the perfect balance between the two sounds.

On the blog last week, we talked about his latest EP NIGHT SHIFT (It's Not All Smiles), and we said 'Taking inspiration from big guns like Ross From Friends and DJ BoringCozy extrapolates melodic loops to their extremes with the help of analog sequencers, moody sound design and interlocking polyrhythms.'

We're so damn stoked on what Maxy Cozy's been up to, so we asked him to put together a 20 minute mix for our radio show on FBi Radio. The mix takes our favourite aspects of Maxy's sound and injects that into his mix. Think lo-fi house, breakbeat and a whole big heaping of UK sounds.

Going down every Saturday night, you can tune into Purple Sneakers on FBi Radio from 5PM-6PM AEDT locally at 94.5FM or DAB+, or stream online at fbiradio.com.
