PS Selected: Avalon Emerson, Eliza Rose, Headstone & more

20 January 2019 | 1:45 pm | Holly O'Neill

Welcome back to our first weekly segment of 2019 (HNY) where we pluck the best mixes from all over the web and the world, bundle em together and call it PS Selected. Whether it was whipped up last week or last year, if it’s worth listening to it’s bound to be featured as we trek through the hours and hours of quality mixes uploaded across the net by big and small selectors alike.

To bring you into the new year right, this week's mixes have been specially chosen to put a spring in your step. From bouncy jersey to left of centre techno to nostalgic funk, these mixes courtesy of ELIZA ROSE, BETA LIBRAE, ONLYTOM, AVALON EMERSON and HEADSTONE are bound to get you moving.

Melbourne producer and DJ headstone marks his glorious return to the net with a mix for Melting Of Age, as he frames his jersey style production around the influences that have inspired it. The bouncing bass lines and interpolating drums make it easy to get carried away once you hit play, as he warns "I probably wouldn't chuck this on in the background of your afters session - I'd say this mix is perfectly suited to losing yourself in on a long train ride/drive while staring out the window at the passing scenery."

Beta Librae really loves space. Along with naming herself after the brightest star in the Libra constellation, the New York talent really has a thing for otherworldly ambient, house and techno. Her mix for the Dekmantel podcast reveals her own galaxy of taste, with every selection a window to another world. For an hour and a half let her lead you on a journey through cavernous soundscapes, off kilter melodies and everything weird and wonderful.

Somehow from all the way from the UK, DJ Eliza Rose has created the perfect soundtrack for our Aussie heatwave. All the way through her residency on Rinse FM she's proven her taste for throwbacks that border on cheesy in the best way, and an encyclopedic knowledge of classic sounds. Her most recent mix for gifts us with a hefty dose of nostalgia, packed full of disco leaning deep cuts and peppy house perfect for soundtracking sipping a spritz in a blow up pool in the yard.

Over the weekend was Fire Festival, a two day event featuring over 50 international artists and thousands of punters across three platforms. Live stream, Discord and Minecraft. This online festival celebrated the best of EDM, club and dance music direct from the bedrooms of the people that made it. LA's onlytom brought his unique brand of bouncy, drum heavy club to the pixelated punters, in a standout set featuring pop flips, snappy drums and a whole lotta energy.

Avalon Emerson, BBC Radio1 Essential mix. So good, mind boggling. Can only distill thoughts in short bursts. Unreleased goodies, one off edits, technicolour techno. Oddball selections, deep cuts, genre chameleon, hell of an experience.

2 hours, 40 tracks, hit play.
