Live Review: Annie Bass returns with a promise on 'In Your Arms'

14 February 2019 | 3:16 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Since making the move to Melbourne from Sydney, it's been all guns blazing for multi-disciplinary singer & songwriter ANNIE BASS. With a back catalogue boasting an alluring, heartbreaking artillery of electronic production alongside her beautifully piercing voice, she returns today with 'In Your Arms'.

It's set to be the opening cut of her forthcoming, highly anticipated debut EP Control, which you can expect to be in your hot little hands this May. This one was written between Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles, working with Kito on the track's production.

It's a beautifully introspective track, and details herself making a promise to a loved one to be there always.

The production works in perfect stead with her voice, pairing light, broken percussion with her bold, unafraid tone. Of the contents of the track, Annie says:

“There are people in your life who are always there to pick up the pieces, to put you back together. For me that is my sister. I was going through a very dark time in my life, everything around me seemed to be falling apart. One night just like any other it all seemed to be too much, and whatever it was she could feel it too. In that moment she said to me over the phone "just so you know, you're not alone". I knew she was afraid, and I wrote this chorus that same night as a promise to her, I can still remember sitting in my tiny Surry Hills bedroom singing it for hours.”
