Live Review: PREMIERE: STARA effortlessly melds genres on 'I Like Being Alone,'

24 April 2019 | 11:04 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Sydney producer/singer/songwriter STARA's back with a biggie. Her last release was her debut EP Simulacra which came out earlier in 2018, a complex release which showcased the many sides to STARA as a creative.

'I Like Being Alone,' is the name of her new track, and it's set to officially drop this Friday, but today, we're giving you the first taste of this next era of STARA right here.

Meticulously blending elements of hip-hop, electronica and pop, she borrows bits and pieces from all of these different genres but never once conforms to any sort of convention. 'I Like Being Alone,' exemplifies this, and sees her opting for slick, carefully considered production choices and one hell of a chorus.

She's given us a visualiser to accompany the single too, a single image of her remaining the centre point of the clip, topped off with trippy cultural imagery. The track is the perfect soundtrack to this other worldly journey.

STARA's undergone an incredible artistic transformation over the last year. After playing sold out shows across the US, releasing her debut EP and working hard on what's to come, 'I Like Being Alone,' feels like a levelling up of sorts, and we're excited to see where this takes her.
