mixes from KILIMI, ANZ and more

Welcome back to our weekly segment where we pluck the best mixes from all over the web and the world, bundle ’em together and call it PS Selected. Whether it was whipped up last week or last year, if it’s worth listening to it’s bound to be featured as Holly O’Neill takes you through the hours and hours of quality mixes uploaded across the net by big and small selectors alike.

This week's huge selections from ANZ, SHYBOI, DJ PLEAD, KILIMI and CHIPPY NONSTOP push the tempo all the way up, creating their own journeys through genres with the help of a few extra beats per minute. All eager to play with rhythm in a way that takes the listener on a complete journey, their itchy trigger fingers on the tempo dial build the dance floor tension through moody explorative lows and blistering highs.

Kicking everything off with the classic syncopation of reggaeton and dancehall rhythms, Kilimi's mix for Sandro Dallarmi's Switch on FBi will have your hips moving from jump. The cheeky Sydney selector blends top fourty flips and niche club edits with up and coming Caribbean and Latin influenced pop stars. Building the vibes with bouncing jersey, baile funk and high energy vogue towards the end, it's a solid bundle of big fun dance energy.

Chippy Nonstop delivers her latest hour for Dummy Mag with a warning, “Approach mix with caution, be mentally and emotionally prepared for an audio cyclone.” Featuring Bollywood pop edits, UK funky, vogue and techno, she deftly shifts between genres and tempos moving all the way from 160 to halftime and all the way back to the peak again. Across her selections she emphasises her own style of organised chaos, that is all at once inundating and hypnotic.

Melbourne's DJ Plead has always been a producer and selector fascinated by thoughtful percussion. In his mix for Astral Plane, he articulates this fascination by weaving juxtaposing rhythms for a slow building journey of an hour. Favouring tracks that love a good tactile drum sample along with a few of his own tunes, Plead choreographs an hour long drum solo taking us from sparse drum tracks and chugging kicks to speedy jungle in the most natural of movements.

NYC DJ SHYBOI is no stranger to the Boiler Room stream recently gracing the platform for the fourth time, streamed live from our shores. Coming to Sydney with fellow Discwoman UMFANG, the two linked up with local crew Bizzaro for the stream that featured some of Australia's finest selectors of left of centre house and techno alongside the international club trailblazers. I've already given so many reasons why I love Boiler Room sets and those apply here too, but are jacked to 100 with such an incredible pastiche of techno, death jersey, metal dance flips and gabber.

Producer, DJ and NTS radio host ANZ has just dropped a four track EP invitation 2 dance, inspired by classic house and UK funky. But, I hear you asking, what happened to the rest of the tracks that didn't make the cut?! Never fear, the UK producer has just dropped her yearly dub mix full of all her own edits, b-sides and tunes that are all still juicy enough to warrant their own release. Full of diverse influences moving through acid, grime, breaks, speed garage, dubstep and more, it's a massively impressive fifty minute dance resume.
